The lightning Once reduced Rotten butterflies To a bruise Dull purple Liquid lips Planes sunder Like pastries in the bloodstream I had it Had it all And my Kingdom Thought i was good Remembrance Sometimes kills Some others flushes down the sink Puke stains Over a plattered floor In steel cathedrals Echoes are noises Ears bleed Bleed ink Little flower Now you see The pills which are keeping me alive The pills Which are keeping me alive This process Needs a Witch A sorceress Designed by me She's gentle Gently slips The capsules down my dainty throat The pills Which are keeping me alive The pills which are keeping me alive Puke stains over a white floor Not the forsaken Baron Now i am Little flower Now you see You're covered in puke Puked flower Silly and poor Can't you see Now i'm sick And i'm dancing Dancing madly With the Devil Open wounds And let them bleed With the Devil Zero turns to zero With the Devil Come back so frail With the Devil Oh i I'm now really dancing With the Devil And then Over a puked white floor I'll make love With the Devil (Like pastries in the bloodstream) With the Devil (Love flows) With the Devil (Rotten butterflies) With the Devil (A return so frail) With the Devil (Pills keep me alive).
There's a bazooka in the living room. The sound of frying scrambled eggs echoes all around the shut house, everything seems to be in a peaceful stasis. The lazy afternoon goes on carried by haggard whiffles of wind. The mansion smells of dust that mixes its bitterness to the soft parfume of ancient oils. Oil sprays all over the kitchen: the eggs are well cooked, maybe wasted, someone in another room doesn't even care about it. Drive, recovery, drive, recovery, then drive again. The rhythm of a rowing machine cuts the fresh air, an opened window shows nothing but a bunch of rectangular eyes -some open some shut- pinned to a tall building that doesn't show its own end. The ceiling is not reachable at an early glance, due to the nearness to the window and the propinquity between the two tall blocks. Balconies filled with flowers cover and hide the lives of other busy people behind them, someone maybe is looking straight to the mirror wondering what to wear, others are reading books, some may be having sex or listening to music. There's a host of records spread all over the bed in the room, the titles are not important, the sleeves display few colours. The rower stops its course, time of eternal recovery. The man raises up and walks tall towards the window, has a cigarette or maybe two chained, then looks at a small clipping of sky shredded by linear jetstreams; he wishes for something he can't have, but no hint of sadness shows off. The smoke is now a gaunt mist that flows all around, the walls squeeze in blue dots reflected by some water bottles mazily placed on the furniture, in no time there's no sense and the whole hole will be dim and dark when the sunset will leave it to mother night. The priestess of murkiness and gloom will come to fold every dream in a plastic veil of innocence, no nun will take it. For a last trice recognisable in the stream scanned by clocks he looks at the clouds moving and covering the blurred lines left by planes. The moving dots all over his head are writing paths of joy connecting land to land; he feels chill within his carbon structure and is born again.
They say you should not get into that bar just a few blocks far from the subway station. They say Marlowe "The Undead" is a peculiar habitué of the place, and he's that kind of person you don't want to meet when you're all alone and lonely in your midnight hours. They say it's a dim, smokey and dark hole, where only the worst turd and mud of the city gathers in order to get some satisfaction to share, a link to the different and miserable isolation conditions of pimps, hookers, thieves, cutthroats. They also say it only opens some nights in particular, and God only knows what those nights are. Nevertheless, that's the only place in town where you can experience James Fowler's compelling trumpet's skills and his quartet at work; the only freaking joint where you can get the real jazz, the one made with spirit, art and passion. Get into the mist of smoke clouds and just let your ears lead your brain, get caught by the sound, the Sound! At least, that's what the black and golden signboard in front of the entrance says, and Peter was pretty sure it was accurate. He looked at that ensign like an astonished kid looks at his new christmas toy, since he was mad for jazz and that night he had the finest occasion of his lifetime to get the real cool one, the one made with spirit, art, passion and all that bla bla bla. He thought he wasn't so different then from the kid-self of him, listening to Iggy Pop and other junkies straight from the Sixties all evening long; but he was young then, maybe too much to understand jazz, or to get if what he was listening to was the real cool one, characterized by all those sumptuous-sounding words, or just a frantic imitation. The thing that really counted for him was the experience, it really was, and as long as his mind believed what he perceived then he wouldn't have complained for a second more. A step after the previous, he abandoned the gloomy night and entered the murky den. James Fowler's trumpet was busy in its exercises of breath extension, the ones that make the air warm and warmer along with the lungs, ready to burn down the place. The man in the background of the stage, the one excercising, was a fat-already-sweating round figure of a black man, dressed in a satin purple tuxedo of questionable elegance. T...
She was the kind of woman your mother would forbid you to meet: a junkie, night time owl, a 24-hour-party-person who of the art of parties -as David Sylvian would call it- was very fond of. Nico was all this, thence she was an Artist, an Icon, the embodiment of sepulchral elegance and ethereal worldly pain. Someone utterly wounded by life's miseries and everyday tragedies that every human being faces in his lifetime; a tall slender muse that turned year after year into a cadaveric marble sculpture. Still Nico was a different being, someone volountarily detached from the bulk of mediocre mankind, made by vermins crawling at the illustres viri -or in this case illustris mulier- feet. With these few sentences I delineate my personal summed portrait of Nico, Christa Päffgen, my soul-grandmother and feminine inspirational figure; the one and only Icon, whose spectrum fades in eternal time. My personal birthday present, so vulgarly called, is a gift to her soul, the ghost portrayed both in colour and in the aseptic light of a Camera Obscura by this work: Seventy-Eight Shades of Marble, of Icon, of Nico.
